Building strong linksI’ve mentioned a few times now the importance of linking in search engine optimisation (SEO), but of all the types of links, one-way links to your website will hold the most weight with search engines.  Quality content is still the first element search engine spiders look for when they’re cataloguing and indexing web pages. However, the second detail they search for are links coming into and out of your website. The links coming into your site have more weight than the ones leaving your site, which is what makes generating incoming links an extremely important search engine strategy.

So, as you’re building and implementing your search engine optimisation strategies, take the time to consider and include the below linking tactics. You will not be able to complete them all at the same time, so instead focus on one tactic at a time, adding to your SEO strategy as you grow.

1. Post Quality Content

Write and publish quality content that others will want to share.  Writing and posting mediocre content will not distinguish your blog or article from the other thousands on the internet. Alternatively, if you write informative, quality content, you will receive incoming links.

2. Write Articles

There are numerous online article depositories, e-zines and online encyclopaedias that allow writers to submit articles and make them available to their readers. Ensure you include your contact details at the end of your article and link it through to your website. Many readers if they have enjoyed your article, will then go to your website to see what else you have to offer.

3. Write Press Releases

Write press releases and submit them to online press release websites. Be sure to include your website link at the end of the press release so media representatives can contact you, but also so you have an incoming link and interested visitors can find your website. Again, the key is to provide quality content that is of value to others.

4. Blog

Blogging is a impressive way to generate fresh content and guest blogging on relevant blogs works a lot like article marketing, you generate links to your site in each blog post you write. You can also include links back to each of your web pages and allow your readers to reprint your blog posts as long as they keep the links in place.

5. Online Directories

While there are many directories that charge for a listing, there are also several that will list your company’s site for free. Subscribe to these free directories and this will again create links to your website.

6. Be Social

Yes, participating in Facebook, Twitter & other social networking sites can create incoming links to your website. In addition, when you comment on forums and other blog posts you also create incoming links via your signature. So, social networking is extremely important to gaining links to your website.

Until next time…..
